Fashion activism – Shwezu joins The Bow Tie Challenge

“Education is the key to unlocking the world, a passport to freedom!” Oprah Winfrey

Working hard to educate young minds, fighting for social justice, and looking good while doing it, is what Christopher Megaffin a.k.a. “The International Educator” is all about. Shwezu is helping him to achieve this through his imaginative “fashion activism” campaign –  The Bow Tie Challenge.

The Bow Tie Challenge is a fundraising initiative that was born as a result of Chris’ passion for teaching, his interest in fashion and his desire to make a difference in the community where he works. Chris has pledged to wear a different bow tie every single day for 365 days! His dedicated fashion statement started on January 1st, 2018 and is raising money for Afrika Tikkun  an organisation that supports the education of children in underprivileged communities in South Africa by providing balanced nutrition and skills development (through career and job readiness training). They are passionate about developing young people and want to end child poverty and youth unemployment.

Part of his initiative is also to support local businesses and designers. Shwezu has proudly partnered with Chris to supply him with bow ties for March and September. All our bow ties are proudly made in the township of Ikageng, near Potchefstroom, South Africa – directly contributing to the growth and prosperity of the people in this local community.

As we celebrate Human Rights Day this March we aim to not only draw attention to the fact that education is a basic human right, but also the key to the future and prosperity of our nation.
